Donation & Refund Policy
Last updated September 2026
Portrait Of A Warrior Gallery Kern County is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Tax ID/EIN: 83-2192550. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
How donations are used
Gifts support the Memorial Gallery and its programs: creating and preserving the portraits of our fallen, maintaining the exhibit rooms, keeping admission free to the public, hosting school and community education visits, and connecting veterans and their families with resources. Unrestricted gifts are applied where the need is greatest.
Restricted gifts
If you designate a gift for a specific purpose, we will honor that designation. If a restricted purpose becomes impractical or is fully funded, we will contact you or, where that is not possible, apply the gift to the closest related purpose as permitted by California law.
Receipts and acknowledgement
Donors receive a written acknowledgement for each gift. For any single contribution of $250 or more, we provide a written receipt stating the amount and confirming whether goods or services were provided in exchange, as required by IRS rules. Please retain your receipt for tax purposes.
Recurring gifts
Monthly gifts (including Team 27 monthly support) continue until you cancel. You may change or cancel a recurring gift at any time by contacting us by phone or mail, or through your payment provider's receipt links.
Refunds
We want every gift to be intentional. If you made an error, such as a duplicate gift, an incorrect amount, or an unauthorized charge, contact us within 30 days of the transaction and we will refund the donation to the original payment method. Refund requests after 30 days will be reviewed case by case. Refunds may be limited where funds have already been expended for a restricted purpose.
Non-cash and in-kind gifts
We gratefully accept in-kind donations, memorabilia, and artifacts at our discretion and subject to available space and mission fit. We provide a written acknowledgement describing the item but do not assign a value; valuation and any required appraisal (IRS Form 8283 for gifts over $5,000) are the donor's responsibility.
Donor privacy and rights
- We do not sell, rent, or trade donor information.
- You may request anonymity or removal from donor recognition.
- You may opt out of our mailings at any time.
- You may request our most recent financial statements and IRS Form 990.
